Heather Wells is used to having her cake and eating it too, but this time her cake just might be cooked. Her wedding cake, that is.

With her upcoming nuptials to PI Cooper Cartwright only weeks away, Heather's already stressed. And when a pretty junior turns up dead, Heather's sure things can't get worse—until every student in the dorm where she works is a possible suspect, and Heather's long-lost mother shows up.

Heather has no time for a tearful mother and bride reunion. She has a wedding to pull off and a murder to solve. Instead of wedding bells, she might be hearing wedding bullets, but she's determined to bring the bad guys to justice if it's the last thing she does . . . and this time, it just might be.

The narrative in The Bride Wore Size 12 happened in the smallest bubble I've ever encountered. I don't think the characters left a radius of 4 street blocks, ever. It was both interesting, and sometimes, a lot of frustrating-I just wanted more scenery, bigger landscapes, a plane ride to a different CITY, at the very least. Oh the things we grow accustomed to in our books. Nevertheless, The Bride Wore Size 12 was quirky, and witty, and completely read in under 2 hours. I haven't had the pleasure of reading the previous Heather Wells books, and to be honest, I felt out of the loop, but not enough that it decreased the entertainment value, or stopped the laughs I occasionally let loose.

Heather Wells is due to be wed to her hunk of a fiance, though instead of planning, her every minute is consumed with solving the mystery of a student's death, which occurred on the residence she works at. Smack dab in the middle of her sleuthing journey, her estranged mother shows up, years after running away with both Heather's money, and her ex-manager. About 5 pages into this book, I realized that I missed quite a bit from the previous novels. I felt like I couldn't grasp a full hold on the characters, ones that might have been introduced and fleshed out more clearly, and in-depth, within previous novels. Heather use to be a pop star, other mysterious death cases were solved, and I obviously missed the best part of her relationship with Cooper: the beginning phase. I just feel like a lot of situations were rushed, or completely glossed over for the sake of loose-end tying, or ending the series.

Despite these qualms, which I'm sure would be easily solved if I read the other books, The Bride Wore Size 12 was an easy-to-follow mystery, with just enough twists to keep you guessing. The characters were numerous, but their distinct personalities made it fun to choose your favourite, and then, to choose which one you thought was the killer. It was like a game of clue, minus the antiquity, and classic weapons. Even though I wanted some of the individual story lines to be pushed further, like Heathers strained relationship with her mother, I think Meg Cabot used her resources well, and produced a narrative that kept my interest for the 400 pages it stretched.
